PREPRATION TIME:

  • PREP TIME: 15 minutes
  • FRY TIME: 15 minutes
  • FREEZE TIME: 2 hours
  • TOTAL TIME: 2 hours 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • String Cheese Sticks 4 Sticks
  • Flour, All Purpose 1/4 cup
  • Breadcrumbs, Plain 3/4 cup
  • Egg, Large 1 each
  • Milk 2 teaspoons
  • Salt 1/2 teaspoon
  • Pepper, Ground 1/4 teaspoon
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Gather your ingredients to make the fried cheese sticks.
  2. Set up your breading station using three shallow bowls. Have one bowl for breadcrumbs, place flour with the salt and pepper in another bowl, and another one with the egg and milk that is beaten together.
  3. Use mozzarella string cheese sticks that have been cut in half.
  4. Roll the string cheese piece into the flour mixture and tap off any excess flour. Next, completely cover the mozzarella stick with the egg wash. Then, toss the dipped sticks into the breadcrumbs to coat completely and evenly. Go back to the egg wash and gently dip the fully breadcrumb coated mozzarella cheese stick with the egg mixture. Finally, coat the mozzarella sticks with a beautiful layer of plain breadcrumbs. Repeat these breading steps until all the mozzarella cheese sticks are coated.
  5. Use a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or paper towels to place the fully breaded mozzarella cheese sticks in a single layer. Freeze the breaded cheese sticks for at least 2 hours.
  6. To fry the breaded mozzarella sticks on a Blackstone Griddle, place a griddle proof pan on the flat top griddle.
  7. Fill the pan with two inches of your favorite frying oil.
  8. Turn the burners of the Blackstone Flat Top Griddle to high heat.
  9. Cover the pan of oil with a large dome lid.
  10. Use a digital thermometer to keep track of the oil temperature. The oil should be 375°F.
  11. Once the hot oil reaches 375°F, place the frozen mozzarella sticks, one at a time into the oil. DO NOT OVERCROWD THE OIL so that the temperature drops rapidly!!
  12. With a metal slotted spoon, turn the fried cheese sticks and work in batches if needed.
  13. The mozzarella cheesy sticks will cook quickly (2 to 3 minutes), so make sure to keep a close eye on them. When the cheese sticks float and turn golden brown, remove the breaded cheese sticks from the oil with the metal slotted spoon.
  14. Place the fried cheese sticks onto a paper towels lined plate to soak up any excess oil.
  15. Don’t have a griddle? You can also use a deep fryer or a saucepan on the stove with oil to cook your fried mozzarella sticks.
  16. Serve hot and with your favorite dipping sauce such as ranch dressing or marinara sauce.

Notes:

  • I like to use peanut oil for frying, but you can use vegetable oil, frying oil, or canola oil. The oil for frying is a personal preference and should not make a difference in the final product.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container lined with parchment paper or paper towels. Place in the refrigerator for up to 6 days.
  • To reheat your leftover fried mozzarella sticks, use the air fryer for best results set at 400 for up to 5 minutes. Watch closely to prevent the cheese from melting out of the breading shell.
